In business it is the aggressive man, who continually has his eye on his own interest, who succeeds.
Wilbur Wright
Introduction
Do you want to become an entrepreneur and invent a problem-solving idea like the Wright brothers? The Wright brothers were very passionate about their works and also the research that they had conducted before experimentation. Throughout this blog, you will learn the fundamentals that the Wright Brothers established to become successful businessmen. Learning these important fundamentals will help you establish your foundation of entrepreneurship and create life-changing inventions inside of your own community.
1. They were hard working and persistent in their objectives
The Wright brothers were always filled with tremendous energy and they worked hard every day, whether that be on their job site or making some necessary improvements on the house they stayed in. While working on their projects, they were always happiest when working together as a team to complete their common objective. They encountered many setbacks but never gave in to failure or challenges. Some of these setbacks consisted of: the death of their mother, Orville's Typhoid Fever, the failures of their flights, and the onslaught of mosquitos that were invading Kitty Hawk. People would have folded if some of these instances would have occurred in their lives. These brothers showed multiple positive mindsets that most of our society today would never even establish. Our society has become lazy and uninterested in the thought of hard-work and persistence. Instead of working, they rely on government aid as the means of making a living and providing for their families. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, then make sure that you are a hard working person and that you persevere while facing any challenges along the way. If everyone today had the same mindset and drive that the Wright brothers had, the world would become a more dynamic business environment.
2. They believed that reading and researching were key
The Wright brothers grew up in a modest household in the city of Dayton, Ohio and their household was filled with different types of literature that could benefit their knowledge base. Wilbur was the smarter of the two, but an ice hockey accident deterred him from entering into college. This caused Wilbur to start becoming depressed and he turned towards reading more and more literature, as everyone else in the family loved reading as well. This was their way of gaining knowledge on certain subjects that they valued. Some of the authors they were interested in included Octave Chanute, Otto Lilienthal, and Samuel Langley. Through research, the Wright brothers were able to develop and prototype the first flying machine. Many people in our society today are wrapped up in social media and watching unnecessary videos, instead of using their opportunity to gain knowledge from numerous internet outlets. Make it a point to read a few knowledgeable articles per week on subjects that may interest you and cause you to think about problems or solutions like the Wright brothers. The younger generation is being steered in the wrong direction and this downslide of reading and researching will cause future businessmen to become less and less knowledgable about key subjects.
3. They used their own assets and obtainable resources
The Wright brothers made use of their own assets and minimized spending of their money to become more efficient in their objectives. Making enough money through their print company and bicycle repair company, they were poised to use their resources to create something spectacular. The brothers were aware if the invention of the airplane was unsuccessful, they could always fall back on their established company and stay in good financial standing. People today are too complacent on their current financial standing, that they don't care about making themselves better or taking a chance on a different idea that they know could crumble before their eyes. The Wright brothers also took advantage of their limitless resources, whether that be the ability to study birds, read books, interact with other high-profile individuals, or relocate to a more ideal location with more feasible conditions. As mentioned earlier, we have more resources now than the Wright brothers could ever imagine. Technological advancing in today's society has allowed us to become very opportunistic in any subject.
Conclusion and Call to Action
Overall, being an entrepreneur is not going to be an easy task, but one must start with common knowledge about the fundamentals exhibited in entrepreneurship. I hope that you will take these fundamentals established by the Wright brothers and become successful in whatever you aspire to be, even if that doesn't involve becoming an entrepreneur. The Wright brothers displayed great entrepreneurial skills and processes throughout their journey to invent the airplane. Today, the Wright brothers' invention is displayed in museums and considered one of the greatest inventions of all time. Hopefully this blog, on top of other possible research on the Wright Brothers, will help you apply their 20th century fundamentals to your own life and put yourself in a position to be in their shoes.
